Welcome
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and give you a little glimpse into our world. We hope that you enjoy your visit and of course we would always welcome the opportunity to meet you in person.
Since 1910, the men and women of the Odessa Fire Department have volunteered their time and energy to protect the citizens of Odessa, NY and the surrounding area. Our fire district includes 81 square miles in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Central New York. Village owned and 100% volunteer, our department takes pride in providing fire, rescue and basic EMS service with dedication and professionalism to those within our protection area.
News
We are involved in preparations for our 100 year anniversary and we are asking the public for assistance in gathering old photographs, memorabilia, etc. that they would like to share. Of particular interest to us are photographs of past Chiefs of the department. If you have information or items that you would like to share, feel free to leave a phone message at the station, send a note in the mail, or send us an e-mail, and thank you in advance.
It's almost tax time again and since we have finally gained some financial assistance from NYS for our service, we want to be sure that everyone has access to the appropriate income tax form to claim your credit if eligible: Income Tax Credit Form.
Fall/Winter 2009
Each month during the coming year we will be holding an event for the public to celebrate our 100 year anniversary with us. The first event will be held at the Odessa Fire Station on January 16, 2010. We will be hosting a dish-to-pass dinner/game night and this will be a family event so we invite you join us in our celebration.
The 6th annual Keep The Wreath Blue campaign in Schuyler County is an effort to remind our citizens to have a safe holiday season. Each department in the county displays a wreath of blue bulbs outside of their station during the holidays. If there is a fire in the county, one blue bulb is replaced with a red bulb. If you see the wreath hanging in front of our station, we ask that you use the wreath as a reminder that you play the most important role in fire safety in your home.
We have recently had to remove our tanker from service due to mechanical issues. We have purchased a new chassis and are in the process of building a new tanker to service our citizens. We are very grateful to our neighboring departments for their assistance during this particular time of need, as well as at all other times we ask.

Unfortunately this month brought the passing of another well known emeritus member of our department. William "Hoss" Leonard passed away on October 6. Hoss was very active in many communities in Schuyler County and was a current member of the Watkins Glen Fire Department. If you attended virtually any fundraising event Hoss could be found there showing his support. He will be deeply missed by many.
August 2008
It is with deep regret that we must report the unexpected passing of one of our past Chiefs. Floyd Goodrich was fatally injured in an accident August 18 while working at a local gravel bank. Floyd was a wonderful and dedicated member of our department and our community. We hope that you will keep the Goodrich family in your thoughts and prayers during their time of need.
Thank you to all of the members of our wonderful community who came out and showed us their support for our chicken barbecue and our Hit The Boot fundraisers. We had another very successful year thanks to your generosity.
July 2008
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of emeritus member Layton Reynolds. Layton was a firefighter here for over 60 years and was very well known in the Odessa community. His presence will be greatly missed.
June 2008
A couple of weeks after several of our members completed the Relay For Life in celebration, honor, and memory of loved ones touched by cancer, we received some devastating news: past Chief Robert J Franklin has been diagnosed with metastatic colo-rectal cancer. He will be undergoing chemotherapy for several months before receiving radiation treatments and surgery. We hope that you will keep the Franklin family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. His wife Rebecca has posted a few blog updates on her Myspace page: Myspace.
March 2008
Saturday March 8 will be a large fundraising Benefit for Jeremy Hoffman, our Second Assistant Chief who suffered a spinal injury in a car accident in October, 2007,
